چکیده

The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) is a key component of the global climate system. However, our current understanding spatio-temporal oscillations and landscape transformation GrIS margins since last glacial cycle still incomplete. objective this work to study deglaciation Zackenberg Valley (74°N, 20°E), NE Greenland, origin derived landforms. Based on extensive fieldwork high-detail geomorphological mapping we identified different types landforms, from which those paraglacial were used understand processes driving regional environmental evolution. We applied cosmic-ray exposure (CRE) dating 32 samples taken erosive depositional landforms distributed across valley. Geomorphological evidence shows that >800-m-thick Late Quaternary glacier filled valleys fjords covered mountain summits. In subsequent phases, as ice thickness decreased, was limited interior valley, leaving several lateral moraines. started by ~13.7–12.5 ka also accelerated slope processes. Many blocks moraines remobilized fell, reaching valley floor where they thinning tongue; transforming it into debris-covered subsequently melted gradually. By ca. 10.5 ka, remnants disappeared floor, chronology similar observed in other sites Greenland. results must be considered studies, reinforcing need support CRE ages phases with paleoclimatic data sedimentary records.

Digital landscapes of deglaciation: Identifying Late Quaternary glacial lake outburst

High resolution DEMs obtained from LiDAR topographic data have led to 9 improved landform inventories (e.g. landslides and fault scarps) and understanding of 10 geomorphic event frequency. Here we use airborne LiDAR mapping to investigate 11 meltwater pathways associated with the Tweed Valley palaeo ice-stream (UK). In particular 12 we focus on a gorge downstream of Palaeolake Milfield, previou...

Two modes of glacial climate during the late stage 5 identified in Greenland ice core records

From a detailed analysis of marine and terrestrial aerosol tracers in the NGRIP ice core we identified two distinct glacial atmospheric flow patterns. The climate transition from Marine Isotope Stage 5 (MIS 5) to MIS 4, at approximately 75 kyr BP, marks a shift between two different atmospheric flow regimes. Before this transition, during 5 MIS 5d-a, the state of atmospheric flow was alternatin...

The deglaciation and neoglaciation of Upernavik Isstrøm, Greenland

a r t i c l e i n f o We constrain the history of the Greenland Ice Sheet margin during the Holocene at Upernavik Isstrøm, a major ice stream in northwestern Greenland. Radiocarbon-dated sediment sequences from proglacial-threshold lakes adjacent to the present ice margin constrain deglaciation of the sites to older than 9.6 ± 0.1 ka. This age of deglaciation is confirmed with 10 Be ages of 9.9...

Glacial rumblings from Jakobshavn ice stream, Greenland

The steep increase in Greenland’s glacial earthquake activity detected by the Global Seismographic Network since the late 1990s suggests that a close inspection of these events might provide clues to the nature and origin of such seismic activity. Here we discuss the detection of large, unexpected seismic events of extraordinarily long duration (10–40min) occurring about once every 2 days, and ...
